I am a reference librarian but I also have a Bachelor's in archaeology. On my days off I like to visit historic places, attend lectures, and read about archaeology. Broward County has a new archaeology group that has just organized called Florida Public Archaeology Network. You can see upcoming events for the group at: http://www.fau.edu/anthro/
The Archaeological Institute of America based in Boston MA has chapters in most major cities in the U.S. The local chapter has their web page here: http://www.pbmnh.org/ProgramsandEvents/AIA.htm
The Institute of Maya Studies is another local group based in Miami at the Miami Science Museum. They area very active group that meets three times a month and they have a regular lecture program. http://www.mayastudies.org/

I also do some volunteer work at the the Bonnet House in Fort Lauderdale. This is a very interesting place to visit. It is like a quiet oasis stuck in the middle of downtown. There is a group of monkeys and a cockatiel named Peaches that live on the property.
Well that all for now
